Assembly 23/8/13
I took Assembly. I had the microphone. ( Cheyden) Cheyden took Room 2's Assembly in front of the whole school. He welcomed everyone. Introduced the National Anthem, then talked about all the activities that we had been involved in this term. There were 6 slides with photos on and 1 to 3 sentences on each. He had to read them out to the assembly and talk clearly into the microphone so that all the children could hear him and understand what he was saying. I supported him with the slides telling him most of the words very quietly and also helped him hold the microphone, as he kept taking it away from his mouth and could not be heard otherwise. He was fantastic. I was so proud of him. He was also very proud of himself. Whaea Bridget took this photo and put it on Twitter for Mr Rehu to see. He was at a Principal's conference. ( Mrs Bennett)
Disco 15/8
I liked the sausage and the lollies best
We had lots of fun at the Disco. We dressed up and had glow lights. We danced and had games and competitions. We also had a sausage and a drink.
Discovery Making Poi T3
I am making poi. Mrs Bennett helped me tie the wool. I sang a song with it. (Cheyden) I assisted Cheyden by first showing him how to make the poi by putting newspaper into a plastic bag. I then showed him what length to cut the wool. I helped him tie it. He then sang E Rere taku poi and swung the poi in time to the music with the other children. Cheyden was using his thinking and problem solving skills as well as developing his hand eye co-ordination skills. ( Mrs Bennett)

Prizegiving
Cheyden won the Sports award at the Term Two Prizegiving assembly. He tried hard and participated well in all sports giving everything a his best shot. He has made a lot of progress in his co-ordination and sport / game skills. He is outside on a bike or a scooter several times a day.( Mrs Bennett)
Matariki 1/7/13- 5/7/13
We had an amazing Matariki week at Riverslea school. We started Monday with a Dawn tree planting ceremony and whanau, school breakfast. Tuesday we had a Hakinakina sports day of Maori games with Bridge Pa school. That was lots of fun. Wednesday we helped prepare for the Hangi on Thursday. Thursday we had a huge Matariki festival at the school. The children were amazing with our Kapa Haka and there was a hangi, lots of stalls and other schools and people and whanau visiting. We had Irongate, Whare Tapere, the Line Dancers, Karamu and singers and dancers. Waata was an amazing DJ with the Funkman and PK in charge of music and coordination, sound etc. The hangi was a highlight with 6-8 Dads, Koros and whanau helping out, as well as whanau such as Roberta and Karina with serving. Other whanau helped behind the scenes with all the activities, sausage sizzle for the performers etc. What an amazing successful week. Ka mau te wihi ( Mrs Bennett).

Writing sample
l went to Sk8zone. I went up the ramps. I went fast. ( Cheyden) I got Cheyden to do a writing sample ( for moderation) on Sk8zone. He attempted to write words. When he read his story back it was very different to the words that he had attempted. However with questioning he was able to orally tell me quite a lot of things that he did at Sk8zone and what he had seen others do. I further supported him by asking more questions to extend his thinking and develop his ideas and story orally. The writing sample and video are above (Mrs Bennett)

Discovery T2
Participating and Contributing- Inside Games. Second time ( combined groups)
I am playing Minecraft. Mrs Bennett showed me how to play. I played it with Tony too.(Cheyden) Cheyden had done this Discovery the week before but was keen to try it again with new games when we combined groups. I showed Cheyden and Tony how to play Minecraft, a lego building game on the ipad. I then played a game with them to reinforce the skills learnt and show them how to move and where to go. They were then able to play several games together independently participating and contributing. They became more much competent at it than I was. Tony went away but Cheyden played it for a long time. When he lost he swapped ipads with another child and started a new game on the new ipad.( Mrs Bennett)
Comic Life
I made a comic life with my learning buddy Bo. We took photos. He showed me how to put the words on. He wrote them.( Cheyden) I monitored them to see that Bo was working well with Cheyden. He was showing him how to do things and got him to try and put the photos in the comic life. He found the comic life difficult but with reinforcement and practise he should pick up and understand the concepts and become independent at it in time ( Mrs Bennett)
Discovery T2
Participating and Contributing- Inside Games.
I am learning to play animal dominoes with Whiore. Mrs Bennett showed us how to play. (Cheyden) I showed Cheyden and Whiore how to play animal dominoes. I then played a game with them to reinforce the skills learnt. They were then able to play several games together independently participating and contributing. Then they moved onto another game. The Life Education Trust

Town Library
21/5/13
I like reading books at the library. Mrs Bennett also read books to us ( Cheyden) Chetden enjoyed looking through all the books in the children's section at the library. This visit showed him the books available at the library and he enjoyed listening to the books that I read as he sat there very quietly and listened the whole time ( Mrs Bennett)
Maths Learning
I like using the Maths apps on the computer. I am good at some of them now. ( Cheyden) Cheyden knows most colours and shapes and can rote count up to 10. I assisted him by telling him the names of the concepts that he was unsure of and prompted him to name the things as he progressed through the pages. I reinforced him by praising his attempts and guided him with next steps on how to use several Maths learning apps. ( Mrs Bennett)
Turangawaewae
I know what we talked about. It was Turangawaewae, our place. I like the bike track best ( Cheyden) Cheyden was able to talk about what we did in Inquiry but was unsure about the 'where to next.' He could tell me about some of the things we did but needed prompting to finish. ( Mrs Bennett)

Flax Rock
Look how high up the climbing wall I can go now. Last year I couldn't get up very far.(Cheyden) I helped Cheyden through PMP develop his motor co-ordination skills. I also guided him at Flax Rock and had him in my group so that I could encourage him and support him with the harness rope.(Mrs Bennett)
Storywriting
I am learning to write stories. Mrs Bennett helps me write the words and I practise on my ipad and on the whiteboard.Sometimes I can try and write my own words too.(Cheyden) I help Cheyden by supporting him with his story writing and encouraging him to try and write words. I also help him with the content of his story before he writes it. ( Mrs Bennett)
Whaea Debz and I
I work with Whaea Debz every day to learn my reading and writing and oral language. We do lots of fun things. I am learning words and doing printing and practising reading my reading book(Cheyden)

Maths on the ipad
I can use my ipad by myself. I know how to learn things on it. I like the Maths apps cause they show me colours and shapes too. I am going to count lots on the big board . It goes up to 100.( Cheyden). I am teaching Cheyden to count and recognise numbers. I have shown him how to use all the apps on his ipad and give him support and reinforcement.(Mrs Bennett)
Eggy Words app
I can get the words and not splat the egg. I like this game. I know some words now. I am going to learn more words ( Cheyden).
Cheyden is learning lots of basic words on the Eggy words app. I taught Cheyden how to use this app to practise his reading vocabulary knowledge and often support him when he uses it by praising his attempts ( Mrs Bennett)

Goals
I talked about my goals and Mrs Bennett videoed me. I am getting good on a scooter now. I still am going to learn to go fast and do 'Ollies.'(Cheyden) I supported Cheyden by videoing him and helping him develop his goal. I also encouraged him to practise in the playground . I even bought a classroom scooter for him and other children in Room 2 to use. Cheyden uses it nearly every day.( Mrs Bennett)
iMovie
I made a movie with Noah and Ebony and Shy-lamour. It was funny. We are Transformers. We ran round the room and fight each other. I am going to make a movie with Huntah next .(Cheyden) I helped Cheyden by showing him how to make the movie and encouraged him to work with others and complete it. I then videoed it.(Mrs Bennett)
Swimming
I am good at swimming now. I can kick with the board and put my head under the water now. I am learning to swim now. (Cheyden) I gave Cheyden encouragement and taught him skills to develop his water confidence ( Mrs Bennett)

I used to have trainer wheels last year. Now I can go on the whole bike track really fast. I like going up and down the hills. I go slow cause I can't go down the big hill without putting my feet down. I fell off when I went fast on the big hill. I am going to keep going on it till I get good at it.
